| Taking Jixi Ancient City as an example, this study establishes a cultural ecosystem of the ancient city’s landscape by integrating the natural, economic, and social environments as an external support system with its internal features system. The distinctive features of the ancient city are analyzed from three perspectives: overall layout, street and alley characteristics, and architectural style to investigate their formative mechanisms and proposes regeneration guidance strategies. The findings elucidate that the street and alley of Jixi Ancient City is featured by the harmonious amalgamation of natural and social elements within its overall layout, a diverse and stratified streetscape, and an architectural style that intertwines culture and art. The three elements, namely natural environmental factors, social environmental factors and economic environmental factors, serve respectively as the foundational bedrock, the endogenous impetus, and the exogenous catalyst, are interconnected, and their synergistic interactions collectively propel the generation of the ancient city′s landscape. Renewal guidance for the ancient city’s landscape are proposed, including preserving the cultural spatial fabric to uphold the overall layout, cultivating a rich historical and cultural ambiance to rejuvenate streetscapes, and excavating and showcasing regional cultural traits to revive architectural styles. |
